Abstract: Objective To investigate the role of endoscopic application of photodynamie therapy (PDT) for cholangiearcinoma. Methods Clinical data of 15 cholangiearcinoma patients who were treated with endoscopic application of photodynamie therapy between Oct 2005 and Apr 2007 were analyzed retrospeetivly. Results No relevant adverse events from PDT occurred except for minor intraoperative phototoxieity in one patient and infectious complication in 3 patients. Ten patients were still alive. The median survival time was 243 days (163~575 d). Quality of life in all patients remained stable throughout follow-up period. Conclusions Endoscopic application of photodynamic therapy has a clinical value for prolonging survival time of patients with cholangiearcinoma. This treatment is minimally invasive and has a low complication rate.
