Abstract: This paper presents a framework for assessing climate suitability forcrop growing at different geographic locations. For a particular geographic location, climate suitability is defined as its ability to satisfy the climate requirements of partic-ular crops. It is obviously crop-specific and can be expressed as the extent to which thenatural climatic conditions satisfy crop growth requirements. Issues that arise whenapplying the framework to a particular location include selecting major climatic factorsthat predominantly affect particular crops, weighting importance values of individualfactors, setting assessment sets and specifying climatic factor criteria for particularcrops, formulating assessment matrixes, and calculating climate suitability for eachcrop. Based on previously published studies, the assessment of climate suitability fororange (Citrus aurantium) and tea (Camellia sinensis) plants growing at different el-evations on the northwards slope of Wuyi Mountain, China illustrates elements of theproposed approach.
