Update on the treatment of port wine stains

Abstract： Port wine stains(PWS)result from dermal capillary dilation and malformation,but not endothelial proliferation.The reported incidence of PWS varies from 0.3%to 0.5%in infants and the lesions usually refuse to subside spontaneously.Great progress has been achieved in the treatment of PWS with lasers and intense pulsed light in the last ten years,but the outcome is beyond satisfied,with the cure rate of lesions being only 10%.This paper presents the new development in PWS therapy as well as the key factors influencing the treatment,which may benefit the improvement of efficacy and reduction of side effects in this medical practice.
