Abstract: AIM:To investigate the effect of using skin flaps based on medial supramalleolar branches of the posterior tibial artery for repairing skin and soft tissue defects around malleolus.METHODS:Eleven cases of skin and soft tissue defects around malleolus, including 7 cases of trauma,3 cases of burns and 1 case of hemangioma were treated with using flaps based medial supramalleolar branches of the posterior tibial artery with an area ranged from 30 cm~2 to 136 cm~2.Eight cases were transferred from ipsilateral legs and 3 cases were transferred from contralateral legs.RESULTS:All cases were survived soundly and there were no complication occurrence during treatment. With 12 months fellow-up all cases were obtained satisfactory result.CONCLUSION:The flaps based on medial supramalleolar branches of the posterior tibial artery with the advantage of minimal invasive, simple manipulating and the avoidance of sacrificing the major arteries is an effective and convenient method to repair skin and soft tissue defect around the malleolus.
