Abstract: AIM To assess the changes of gene expression of the transformgrowth factors-β1 in the process of the healing of the osteoporotic fracture in ovariectomized female SD rats. METHODS Ovariectomized female SD rats were used as model of type I osteoporosis and osteoporotic fracture and the changes of gene expression of the transforming growth factors-β1 were detected in the process of the healing of the osteoporotic fracture through in situ and blot hybridization. RESULTS There was no difference of the cellular localization in TGF-β1 expression between the processes of the normal and osteoporotic bone healing by in situ hybridization; The pattern of the gene expression of TGF-β1 mRNA was similar to the normal in the process of the osteoporotic bone healing by dot blot hybridization. CONCLUSION Expression of TGF-β1 mRNA is not related to the pathophysiological changes in the process of osteoporotic bone healing.
