Sponsored by the Chinese Medical Association, the Chinese Journal of Oncology (CJO), a highlevel medical professional periodical, began its publication in 1979. The editorial board is in charge of its editing, and the Cancer Institute, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences is responsible for its publication. Adhering to the guiding principle of “hundreds of flowers blossoming and hundreds of schools debating”, CJO insists on integrating basic research with clinical investigation, creativity with popularization, theoretical exploration with clinical application. Special emphasis is placed on publishing research on tumors of common occurrence and achievements of key research projects. It covers missions from the government-stipulated programs, nation-wide and regional collaborations on special topics, and cutting-edge research from national key laboratories and comprehensive cancer centers. The pivotal undertaking of CJO is to report results of innovative research programs of state priority, progress in hot spot studies and guiding accomplishments. CJO has been making all effort to embody the general view, major achievements and national level of science and technology in the field of oncology in China. CJO is an authoritative professional periodical in oncology. The major columns of CJO are as follows: (1) Basic Research, (2) Clinical Investigation, (3) Special Comprehensive Review, (4) Cancer Forum, (5) Brief Research Communication, (6) Technology and Methodology, (7) New Standard, Guideline, Equipment, etc. In 1998 through 2002, as a scientific and high-tech journal, CJO received special financial support every year. Since 2001 CJO has been one of the “Chinese periodicals array” and given the honor title “double award journal”. Papers published in CJO have got accession to many important and authoritative data bases, both domestic and abroad, among others, Index Medicus, Excerpta Medica, Chemical Abstracts(CA), Biological Abstracts(BA), Medline. With the increase in frequency of publication, increase in both quantity and quality of papers published, and improvement of quality of compilation, CJO will further raise her position among Chinese biomedical periodicals and approach to international scientific magazines.
