Chinese Journal of Surgery (CJS ) is one of excellent and old-line surgical periodicals in China. It started publication in 1951 on behalf of Chinese Medical Association, and now it is distributed worldwide. The role of the CJS is to inform its readers of ideas, opinions, developments and key issues in surgery-clinical, practical and scientific field of all disciplines. The journal is published twice in a month, and it is essential for practitioners, researchers, teachers of all surgical disciplines, graduates and all professionals with an interest in surgery. CJS is a multidisciplinary journal which covers all branches of surgery, and the journal mainly includes the Original Articles, Commentaries, Case Reports, Book Reviews, Proceedings of Conferences, News and Announcements. All papers published in CJS are subject to rigorous peer review, and then critically evaluated by the members of the editorial board or expert consultants. Papers are published rapidly, and the average handling time is 6-9 months from submission to publication. The 12th editorial board of CJS has recently been elected, and the editorial advisory board, editorial board and correspondance board consist of 300 outstanding surgeons and medical researchers. The members of advisory board include world renowned surgical professors. CJS has the highest ranking for citation frequency of any Chinese surgical journal listed in the most recent Chinese Science Citation Index and Core Journal, ranks 4 and 5 respectively out of 1477 medical journals.The CJS is indexed/abstracted by: IM and MEDLINE, BIOSIS (Biological Abstracts), over 10 kinds of domestic biomedical databases,including CMCC, CNKI, CBM, Chinese Science Citation Index, et al. CJS won National Prizes for Excellent Academic Periodical and Outstanding Academic Journal, conferred by China Science and Technology Association in 1992, 1997, and 2003. The journal has also been granted the 1st and 2nd National Journal Award in 1999 and 2003.
